FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
| |
Here are some of our most frequently asked questions. If you have a question and do not see it answered here, please contact us. We'll answer your question and then post it here for others to see.
- Q – How long do the diamond rods last?
A – So far our diamond rods have lasted just over 3 years, but we use them 9 months out of the year doing trade shows. We know that you will not use your sharpener as much as we do so that is why we place a 3-year warranty against manufacturer defects.
- Q – How long do the springs last?
A – The springs are made of stainless steel. While in the unit, you can only stretch them to 50% of the springs intended use. This combination ensures that the springs will last a lifetime. Again, we have a 3-Warranty on the product and our whole goal is to keep you sharp.
- Q – Will the V-Sharp work with serrated edge?
A – Since the V-Sharp is operating on a flat surface, serrated edges will not do you any justice. We do have a serrated edge diamond stone that will conform to the various angles of serrated concaves. Please refer to the Products Page.
- Q – Are the diamond rods adjustable?
A – Absolutely!!! Both the V-Sharp and the Hunter are totally adjustable. The V-Sharp has 3 industry standards of adjustments - 17 degrees (filet knives), 20 degrees (kitchen knives) and 25 degrees (hunting knives).
-
Q – Why are there different grits of diamond rods? A – The V-Sharp comes with 325 grit diamond rods. The optional rods are 600 grit diamond and 1000 grit diamond. These optional rods make you edge finer and smoother. The only reason we would suggest the optional rods is if you work with leather and/or taxidermy. For home use and hunting use, the 325 grit is all you need.
-
Q – Why do I need the steels? A – We have developed the new drop-in steels to ensure you keep the perfect angle even when steeling your edge. These are made of tool hardened steel and are offset by an additional 5 degrees to refine, align and smooth the tip of your edge. Please visit our New Products page to see how they work.
-
Q – Do the diamond rods need cleaning? A – The unit is virtually self cleaning, but please be sure to always pull a clean blade through the diamonds. If you are skinning a deer and sharpening your knife between deer, you don’t want to take the unit inside and let you wife sharpen her knives, thus possibly contaminating your uncooked food.
-
Q – How fast can you sharpen a dull knife? A – Depending on how hard the steel is and how dull the knife is you are sharpening, will depend on how long it will take. We can sharpen a dull, cold steel blade in less than 2 minutes and any kitchen or pocket knife in less than 1 minute.
-
Q – What makes the V-Sharp more superior than any other knife sharpener? A – The two most important dynamics to sharpening a knife are consistant angle and constant pressure. Because the V-Sharp is spring-loaded, we supply constant pressure. When following the guides, you provide consistant angle. Thus knife sharpening can be done exponentially faster than standard flat stones and other “V” style sharpeners.
-
Q – Do you need to oil or lubricate the diamond rods? A – Oil, Water or any other lubricants are totally unnecessary when using the V-Sharp. The diamonds are self cleaning, and lubricating would only clutter the diamonds.
-
Q – Will the V-Sharp sharpen scissors? A – The angle of scissors is usually between 75-85 degrees and the V-Sharp is preset at 25 degrees and is adjustable to 17 degrees and 20 degrees. The Hunter Series provide a multitude of angles and provides your constant angle. Please refer the Products page for more details. |
